Research findings
There is no, or insufficient provenance information known about this object from the period 1933-1945. After investigation, no sources have been found to date that can provide information to complete its provenance in the period. Therefore, no conclusions can be made regarding possible suspicious provenance or involuntary loss of ownership.
The provenance of this painting is unclear. It is unknown from whom Kunsthandel Hoogendijk in Amsterdam acquired the work. Hoogendijk sold the painting to Göpel on 1 July 1942. Göpel then sold it on 13 July 1942 to Herbst, director of the Dorotheum auction house in Vienna. The painting was subsequently acquired via Posse for the Führermuseum Linz in September 1942.
