The provenance of this painting is unclear. It is unknown from whom Kunsthandel Van der Ploeg in Amsterdam acquired the work. Van der Ploeg sold the painting to Herbst in Vienna, then director of the Dorotheum auction house. The work was subsequently purchased for the Führermuseum in Linz.
