The provenance is inconclusive. It is not known how, when or under what circumstances art dealer Bier from Amsterdam acquired this painting. In October 1943, Bier sold the painting to the planned Führer Museum in Linz. It is unclear who acted as an intermediary in this transaction. Bier himself stated that it was done through Posse, but Posse had already died in 1942.
