The provenance is inconclusive. It is unknown how, when, or under what circumstances art dealer Bier from Amsterdam acquired this painting. In September 1943, Bier sold the painting for the planned Führer Museum in Linz. It is unclear who acted as an intermediary in this transaction. Bier himself stated that it was done through Posse, but Posse had already passed away in 1942.
