This dish was owned by Alfred and Hedwig Pringsheim, a Jewish couple who sold their collection in 1939. They used the money from the sale to pay for their escape to Switzerland.

Since 1942 the museum has had seven majolica items from the former Pringsheim collection. A 3638 (KN&V) was apparently purchased by the museum in 1955 from the Bastert-Van Schaardenburg collection. The other items were acquired in 1942 on loan and purchased in 1948. Alfred and Hedwig Pringsheim were German Jews who found it necessary in 1939 to sell the items in the collection not already confiscated by the Gestapo. They used part of the money they raised to escape to Zurich, Switzerland. These majolica pieces found their way via auctions in London into Jaap Bastert and Iet van Schaardenburg's collection, which the latter sold to 'Stichting Administratiefonds Rotterdam'.

Sinds 1942 bevinden zich in het museum zeven stukken majolica uit de voormalige collectie Pringsheim. Inv.nr. A 3638 (KN&V) werd pas (naar het schijnt) in 1955 door het museum aangekocht uit de collectie Bastert-Van Schaardenburg. De overige stukken werden in 1942 in langdurig bruikleen gegeven en in 1948 aangekocht. Het joods Duitse echtpaar Alfred en Hedwig Pringsheim zag zich in 1939 genoodzaakt om het deel van hun collectie dat nog niet in beslag was genomen door de Gestapo te veilen. Een restant van de opbrengst gebruikte het echtpaar om te vluchten naar Zürich, Zwitserland. De stukken majolica belandden via de veilingen in Londen in de collectie van Jaap Bastert en Iet van Schaardenburg, die ze vervolgens weer verkochten aan de Stichting Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.
