It is not certain when and under what circumstances the painting left the collection of the German-Jewish banker and art collector Jakob Goldschmidt.
This painting entered the collection of the museum with the acquisition of the estate of D.G. van Beuningen in 1958, who had acquired it from the art dealer Jacques Goudstikker in 1939. It is known that the work was in the possession of the German-Jewish banker and art collector Jakob Goldschmidt in 1930. It seems to still have been in his possession in 1937. Goldschmidt fled Berlin in 1933 and settled in the United States in 1936, where he passed away in 1958.
Het is niet met zekerheid te zeggen wanneer en onder welke omstandigheden dit schilderij uit de collectie van de Duits-Joodse bankier en kunstverzamelaar Jakob Goldschmidt raakte. [nl]
Dit schilderij kwam in de collectie van het museum met de aankoop van de nalatenschap van D.G. van Beuningen in 1958, die het in 1939 van kunsthandelaar Jacques Goudstikker kocht. Het werk was zeker sinds 1930 in het bezit van de Duits-Joodse bankier en kunstverzamelaar Jakob Goldschmidt. Het lijkt erop dat het werk in 1937 nog in zijn bezit was. Goldschmidt vluchtte in 1933 uit Berlijn en vestigde zich in 1936 in de Verenigde Staten, waar hij in 1958 overleed. [nl]
